Our Journey
The Magic Eastern Ensemble is a musical performance group founded in 2018 and is under the leadership of music director Yao Lu. Ensemble is a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the United States.
The Magic Eastern Ensemble is cultivating a new generation of performing music on traditional East Asian instruments. The group is excited to explore not only traditional music but new folk compositions. Additionally, we have a passion for fusion with the aesthetics of Western music to provide a diverse audience with a new understanding of traditional East Asian instrumentation by combining with electronic music, jazz, and more to create a one-of-a kind sound.

Yao Lu, graduated from Shanghai Theatre Academy, is an American Chinese bamboo flute (Dizi) and Guzheng performer.

Magic Eastern Ensemble also includes young Guzheng students who form the Youth Guzheng Group and adult learners who appear as the Adult Guzheng Group in the Ensemble.
